Qatargas to Supply Japan with Additional 20 Million Tonnes of LNG

Qatargas announced that it is helping its Japanese customers by supplying over 20 million tonnes of LNG in the short term to help with the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Qatargas has increased its support for Japan by 11 million tonnes from the original 9 million tonnes of short-term supplies announced last autumn.

These volumes are in addition to the several new long-term LNG supply agreements reached between Qatargas and its Japanese customers over the last 12 months.

This is a substantial commitment to the energy security of Japan and is evidence of the strong relationship Qatargas enjoys with its Japanese stakeholders.

Announcing this, Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chief Executive Officer, Qatargas, said:

As of now, Qatargas has delivered LNG to 21 countries, with planned sales to several more in future. Qatargas has ongoing long-term commitments to deliver approximately 13 million tonnes per annum to the company's term buyers in Japan and China.

Qatargas will continue to support the Asia-Pacific LNG market place and the company anticipates the conclusion of more SPAs in the future.
